Dog Licenses

State law mandates that all dog owners must obtain a license for their dog(s) each year.

Fee Schedule

Licenses are available at Town Hall according to the following fee schedule.

Dog License Purchased by Senior (70 Years or Older)No charge
Kennel License: Up to 4 dogs$25 total
Kennel License: 5 to 10 dogs$50 total
Kennel License: 11 or more dogs$75 total


Licensing Deadlines

The licensing deadline without penalty is April 1. Please note, after April 1, a $25 per dog late fee will be imposed. After May 1, the late fee rises to $50 per dog. Anyone who has not re-licensed their dog(s) by June 1 will be subject to a $100 late fee per dog and will have their names turned over to Ayer District Court by the Animal Control Officer.

Obtain a License / Application

Dog license applications are mailed out every January with the Annual Street Listing. You may also come in person to apply at the Town Clerk’s Office or download a Dog License Application (pdf). Download a kennel application here for 4 or more dogs. Send the completed application, together with proof of up-to-date rabies vaccination, evidence of neutering/spaying (if not already on file), and the appropriate fee, to:

Dog licenses can also be obtained through our Online Payments portal. If your dog has an up-to-date rabies certificate on file, you can renew your dog’s license online via electronic cash transfer from your checking account (ACH) or by credit or debit card. Please note that there is a fee for credit and debit card purchases.
